A pleasant encounter with a pair of cats

I went to get my car fixed today and the mechanic (Bill) said we have to wait till the engine cools off. I was wandering around killing time and these two cats came greeting. They were so friendly and stuck around the whole time I was there. The black one was too friendly. I don't have good photos of him because he was always wanting me to pat him. The other one was cool as a cat. All in all I had a good time (and got my car fixed) and so glad I took my camera with me.

Photographing a jet black cat on bright white sheet of snow is a real challenge. But I'm glad I chose to carry my camera with me today. It paid off. Enjoy!

Light Circles

Here's a simple way to get nice light circles with a camera and a flash light.

Hang the flash light in the ceiling with string that's long enough to make nice circles but with a decent distance from the camera lying on the floor facing up. A wired remote trigger helps. Set the shutter to BULB and a aperture to a large (small aperture) value (f/22). Give the flash light a small push and wait for it to start making good circles. (Circles are a little jagged in the beginning but become stable in few minutes) Take shots of different exposure lengths. Focusing while the camera lying on the floor is a challenge and mine are a little out of focus. But for pictures like these it doesn't really matter. Check out the photos in the slide show below. Colored photos are simple gradient overlays with different blending methods. Enjoy and share your trials.
